WebMD Symptom CheckerHealth concern on your mind?

Security concerns have been voiced within the business world, since there is potential for sensitive work information to be publicized on microblogging sites such as Twitter.

Microblogging has the potential to become a new, informal communication medium, especially for collaborative work within organizations.

Google later amended these settings.

Among the most notable services are Twitter, Tumblr, FriendFeed, Cif2.net, Plurk, Jaiku and identi.ca. Varieties of services and software with the feature of microblogging have been developed. Plurk has a timeline view which integrates video and picture sharing. Flipter uses microblogging as a platform for people to post topics and gather audiences opinions. Emote.in has a concept of sharing emotions, built over microblogging, with a timeline.

Blogging has mutated into r forms (specifically, link- and mob- and aud- and vid- variant), but I dont think Ive seen a blog like Chris Neukirchens Anarchaia, which fudges together a bunch of disparate forms of citation (links, quotes, flickrings) into a very long and narrow and distracted tumblelog.

Several studies, most notably by Harvard Business School and Sysomos, have tried to analyze the usage behavior of microblogging services.

. DOJ Subpoenas Twitter Records of Several WikiLeaks Volunteers. Salon. Archived from the original on 11 January 2011.

A tumblelog is a quick and dirty stream of consciousness, a bit like a remaindered links style linklog but with more than just links. They remind me of an older style of blogging, back when people did sites by hand, before Movable Type made post titles all but mandatory, blog entries turned into short magazine articles, and posts belonged to a conversation distributed throughout the entire blogosphere. Robot Wisdom and Bifurcated Rivets are two older style weblogs that feel very much like these tumblelogs with minimal commentary, little cross-blog chatter, the barest whiff of a finished published work, almost pure editing...really just a way to quickly publish the stuff that you run across every day on the web

Over the last few years communication patterns have shifted primarily from ce-to-ce to more online communication in email, IM, text messaging, and other tools. However, some argue that email is now a slow and inefficient way to communicate.

The first microblogs were known as tumblelogs. The term was coined by why the lucky stiff in a blog post on April12, Social Media, 2005, while describing Christian Neukirchens Anarchaia.

Microblogging is a broadcast medium in the form of blogging. A microblog differs from a traditional blog in that its content is typically smaller in both actual and aggregate file size. Microblogs allow users to exchange small elements of content such as short sentences, individual images, or video links.

Other leading social networking websites Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Diaspora, JudgIt, Yahoo Pulse, Google Buzz, Google+ and XING, also have their own microblogging feature, better known as status updates.

For instance, time-consuming email chains can develop, whereby two or more people are involved in lengthy communications for matters, such as arranging a meeting.

Twitter, Facebook, and other microblogging services are also becoming a platform for marketing and public relations,

Microblogging is therefore expected to improve the social and emotional welre of the workforce, as well as streamline the information flow within an organization.

The short nature of updates allow users to post news items quickly, reaching its audience in seconds.

survey, based on more than 11 million users, shows that 10% of Twitter users account for 86% of all activity.

with a sharp growth in the number of social media marketers. The Sysomos study shows that this specific group of marketers on Twitter is much more active than the general user population, with 15% of marketers following over 2,000 people and only .29% of the Twitter public following more than 2,new york asian escorts 000 people.

Some microblogging services offer features such as privacy settings, which allow users to control who can read their microblogs, or alternative ways of publishing entries besides the web-based intece. These may include text messaging, instant messaging, E-mail, digital audio or digital video.

Microblogging services have also emerged as an important source of real-time news updates for recent crisis situations, such as the Mumbai terror attacks or Iran protests.

Microblogging services have revolutionized the way information is consumed. It has empowered citizens themselves to act as sensors or sources of data which could lead to important pieces of information. People now share what they observe in their surroundings, information about events, and their opinions about certain topics (for example, government policies in healthcare.) Moreover, these services store various metadata from these posts, such as location and time. Aggregate analysis of this data includes different dimensions like space, time, theme, sentiment, network structure etc., and gives researchers an opportunity to understand social perceptions of people in the context of certain events of interest.

Hosted microblogging platforms are also available for commercial and organizational use.

Another implication of remote collaboration is that there are fewer opportunities for ce-to-ce informal conversations. However, microblogging has the potential to support informal communication among coworkers. Many individuals like sharing their whereabouts and status updates with microblogging.

Microblogging also promotes authorship. On the microblogging platform Tumblr, the reblogging feature links the post back to the original creator.

As with traditional blogging, microbloggers post about topics ranging from the , such as what Im doing right now, to the thematic, such as sports cars. Commercial microblogs also exist to promote websites, services and products, and to promote collaboration within an organization.

Text is available under the ; additional terms may apply. See Terms of Use for details.

However, by 2006 and 2007, the term microblog came into greater usage for such services provided by Tumblr and Twitter. In May 2007, 111 microblogging sites were counted internationally.

Internet users in China are cing a different situation. Foreign microblogging services like Twitter, Facebook, Plurk, and Google+ are ed in China. The users use Chinese weibo services such as Sina Weibo and TencenSocial Media Microbloggingt Weibo. Tailored to Chinese people, these weibos are like hybrids of Twitter and Facebook, they implement basic features of Twitter and, allow users to comment to others posts, post with graphical emoticons or attach image, music, video files.

The findings of a study by Emily Pronin of Princeton University and Harvard Universitys Daniel Wegner have been cited as a possible explanation for the rapid growth of microblogging. The study suggests a link between short bursts of activity and feelings of elation, power and creativity.

The one-to-many broadcasting offered by microblogs is thought to increase productivity by circumventing this.

Live Blogging is a derivative of microblogging that generates a continuous feed on a specific web page.

Integration could be the hardest issue to overcome, since it can be argued that corporate culture must change to accommodate microblogging.

Instant messaging systems display status, but generally only one of a few choices, such as: available, off-line, away. Away messages (messages displayed when the user is away) form a kind of microblogging.

As microblogging use continues to grow every year, it is quickly becoming a core component of Enterprise Social Software.

Several of these studies show that for services such as Twitter, there is a small group of active users contributing to most of the activity.

Services such as Lifestream and Profilactic will aggregate microblogs from multiple social networks into a single list while other services, such as Ping.fm, will send out your microblog to multiple social networks.

In the Finger protocol, the .project and .plan files are sometimes used for status updates similar to microblogging.

Wikipedia® is a registered trademark of the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization.

PingGadget is a location based microblogging service. Pownce, developed by Digg founder Kevin Rose among others, integrates microblogging with file sharing and event invitations.

Privacy is arguably a major issue because users may broadcast sensitive personal information to anyone who views their public feed. Microblog platform providers can also cause privacy issues through altering or presetting users privacy options in a way users feel compromises their personal information. An example would be Googles Buzz platform which incited controversy in 2010 by automatically publicizing users email contacts as followers.

On centralized services, where all of the Microblogs information flows through one point (i.e. servers operated by Twitter), privacy has been a concern in that user information has sometimes been exposed to governments and courts without the prior consent of the user who generated such supposedly private information, usually through subpoenas or court orders. Examples can be found in recent Wikileaks related Twitter subpoenas,

Users and organizations can set up their own microblogging service: free and open source software is available for this purpose.

Google also became a trusted online source in the months after the quake. Its Person Finder site became the national database for information on those caught in the disaster and eventually swelled to over 600,000 entries. The site was repeatedly featured by national broadcaster NHK as a public resource and received data from the National Police Agency, local governments and newss. Google has since launched services such as public alerts that allow users to quickly find local info on earthquakes and other disasters.

The disasters that hit Japans northeast coast in 2011 were a human tragedy. The earthquake and tsunamis left over 17,000 dead or missing, with 310,000 still in temporary housing, many unable to return home because of radiation concerns related to meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

At first people didnt have computers, but they could use the Internet with their phones, she said.

Statistics show that users of both services have surged since March 2011. In February of that year, Twitter was averaging about 130 million messages a day in Japan, a number that has since climbed to 400 million. The company declined to provide exact user numbers for the couSocial Networking Japan quake and tsunami put social networks on stage PCWorldntry, but Japanese users are among its most numerous and active.

The search giant, Twitter and other online companies have pledged to work more closely in future disasters. In September of last year Google helped organize a big data workshop to analyze information from the 2011 earthquake. Google provided data on search trends and Twitter supplied a week of Twitter messages from after the disaster. Honda supplied data such as car location information from its online navigation system.

Facebook is still not as popular in Japan as in other countries and has ded in recent months. But the number of accounts increased about six times since before the earthquake and is currently between 13 million and 14 million, according to an analysis published by Japans Ceraja Technology and Socialbakers in the U.S.

Minako Miyamoto, a nurse who lives in the unaffected city of Kanazawa on the western coast of Japan, rushed east to volunteer when she learned how serious the local situation was, and eventually launched a nonprofit to help.

At exactly 2:46 many users posted Mokutou, Japanese for silent prayers, followed immediately by angry responses along the lines of Youre not praying silently if you tweet about it, and a lengthy online back-and-forth ensued.

At the time [after the earthquake] Facebook was the way we kept in touch privately. People couldnt use their phones, and it was the easiest, said Takahiro Chiba, an official who organizes volunteers in the eastern seaside town of Kessenuma, where tsunamis washed huge ships ashore and caused massive oil fires.

Last year Twitter created lifeline accounts operated by local Japanese towns and cities, which users can search for using their postal codes. The company has held disaster drills to help users tweet useful information during emergencies, and Japans Fire and Disaster Management Agency is mulling allowing 911 calls to be placed through Twitter when phones go down.

Many residents left the area, but Toba stayed in town and started a small vegetable shop to help local rmers recover.

There was a seven or eight-fold increase in tweets overnight after the earthquake, said Twitter spokeswoman Kaori Saito in Tokyo. Some people had trouble finding reliable information, so weve tried to make it easier to search for accounts run by local governments.

In the aftermath, services like Facebook and Twitter surged in users and have become part of Japanese society. Even so, some have started to wonder if there are other, better kinds of social networks.

Before the disaster, I used Mixi, Facebook, and Twitter. But on Mixi, new york asian escort many people are anonymous, while on Facebook people use their real names, so it is more trustworthy, she said. Even now, I use Facebook to keep in touch with people I met in the shelters.

The sheer number of Twitter messages sent out during and after a disaster can also serve as a source of data. Researchers at the University of Tokyo have said they can detect when earthquakes are occurring with 96 percent accuracy by filtering Twitter messages for certain keywords and frequency.

The 2011 earthquake and tsunami are forever linked with social media in Japan. In the chaotic days and weeks that followed, with the northeast coast in shambles and hundreds of thousands in shelters with no phone service, Social Networking, many turned to services like Twitter and Facebook to post personal news or keep in touch.

At 2:46 Monday afternoon, Japan went quiet.

In memory of the lives lost two years ago in the earthquake that struck at that hour and the tsunamis that followed, a moment of silence was held across the country. From government buildings to small coffee shops, everyone pausedthe Emperor of Japan, politicians, national TV anchors, office workers. In Tokyo the busy subways were shut down briefly, and in some areas drivers pulled over to the side of the road.

Toba made a Twitter account in June and one on Facebook in December, and is still active on both today. Her daily Good morning posts are mous among former residents scattered across the country, and her vegetable store became a meeting place when they returned to visit.

Many of the government support agencies and nonprofit agencies that sprung up in the aftermath of the disaster say they use Facebook as their main portal to reach users.

Some new social networks were born out of the disaster. Line, a Japanese chat app that launched in June of 2011, is now common in the country and hit 100 million users in January of this year, with another 3 million signing on each week.

Now its more for public groups, for posting notices and information about our activities. Volunteers are still coming, and this is how we reach them.

I have 800 friends on Facebook, but I think that less than half of them see what Im saying, said Miyamoto, the volunteer nurse. Lately Ive realized I need to create more events where people get together in the real world.

At the same time on Twitter, an argument broke out.

PCWorldPCWorld helps you navigate the PC ecosystem to find the products you want and the advice you need to get the job done.

People were looking for a way to communicate and had trouble doing so with mobile calls and email, said Jun Masuda, the executive in charge of the services strategy and marketing.

People had lost their homes and milies, but they wanted to keep track of what was happening, said Hatsue Toba, a 51-year-old who survived the tsunami in the coastal town of Rikuzentakata, much of which was flattened by a tsunami.

The surge in use drove such sites into the mainstream, where they have remained since. Japanese users that had long been unwilling to use their real names online, sticking to local anonymous networks like Mixi, were suddenly revealing the names of dead relatives and posting pictures of their ruined homes.

Erin Mantz lets her two boys, Max, 11, and Zack, 8, use Instagram to keep up with their friends. She sees it as a normal part of sociaCourantcom Social Networkingl life for todays tweens.

I hate to say, Everybody is doing it, so its OK, but if I block them from using it, I feel like it would be like when I was 11, my mom saying I couldnt talk to my friends on the phone, Mantz said. Its how they are social. I dont think I can stand in the way of that unless I see something inappropriate. Then all bets are off.

Teach them to treat each other well, to be a good friend, to not bully, OKeeffe said.

Social media are so interwoven with kids lives, though, that to bar them from using the sites at all is not realistic. In ct, if parents dont let their children use social media, they are not equipping them with the skills they need to function in the digital world, according to Caroline Knorr, parenting editor of Common Sense Media.

Facebook with its requirement that users be at least 13 and Twitter are indeed geared toward older teenagers and adults, according to experts. Gwenn OKeeffe, a pediatrician and spokeswoman for the American Academy of Pediatrics, new york escort said parents should follow those restrictions because children younger than 13 are not developmentally ready for the nuances of the social interactions on those sites.

Parents can use the chat functions on sites such as Webkinz, which is geared toward children ages 6 to 13, as a way to teach kids to be kind in the online world, OKeeffe said. (Common Sense Media has rated several social media sites for tweens on its Web site.)

Facebook and Twitter, however, are off-limits. Mantz considers those sites more appropriate for adults who use them for professional networking and information gathering. She also said none of their peers use them.

Social networking today is really just a natural part of the way kids and teens are growing up, Social Networking, Knorr said. They use social networking to explore some of the natural developmental issues that they are going through.

When children start a Webkinz account, they give themselves a user name that is associated with their virtual pet. They can invite their friends pets to play games or chat with them on the site.

Both boys use their first names only as their user names. Max shares photos of things he has bought, Mantz said, or sayings that he likes. To Mantz, it seems pretty harmless.

That will prepare them for the interactions on Facebook and Twitter when they get older, and teach them to think of their friends on social media as real people with feelings.

We live in a digital world, OKeeffe said. You have to start incorporating lessons about this as soon as they show interest, as young as you can go. Its just like teaching your child not to put his finger in a light socket.

KinzChat Plus is intended for children ages 10 and older. It allows children to type messages, but the system uses word monitors to screen for personal information or inappropriate content. The site also encourages parents to use it with their children to monitor what they are doing.

But using social media can come at a cost when kids use it to bully or tease classmates, so its important to teach children that they are interacting with real people online, OKeeffe said.

Knorr said its important to monitor how your child is reacting to social media to make sure theyre not becoming obsessed with using it, or upset by things that they have seen. Trouble signs include kids who are acting withdrawn or are obsessive about social networking, Knorr said. If your child is only happy when using social media, or noticeably sad after using it, those are signs that it is problematic.

Webkinz has two levels of chats. With KinzChat, which is designed for younger children, users can choose from preset messages such as Which Clubhouse room is your vorite? and cannot enter their own text.

The Social Network is a 2010 American drama film directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin. Adapted from Ben Mezrichs 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires, the film portrays the founding of social networking website Facebook and the resulting lawsuits. It stars Jesse Eisenberg as founder Mark Zuckerberg, along with Andrew Garfield as Eduardo Saverin and Justin Timberlake as Sean Parker, the other principals involved in the websites creation. Neither Zuckerberg nor any other Facebook staff were involved with the project, although Saverin was a consultant for Mezrichs book.

In a 2009 interview with The Baltimore Sun, Eisenberg said, Even though Ive gotten to be in some wonderful movies, this character seems so much more overtly insensitive in so many ways that seem more real to me in the best way. I dont often get cast as insensitive people, so it feels very comfortable: fresh and exciting, as if you never have to worry about the audience. Not that I worry about the audience anyway it should be just the furthest thing from your mind. The Social Network is the biggest relief Ive ever had in a movie.

The real-life Zuckerberg was maniacally focused on building a web site that could potentially connect everyone on the planetBy contrast, in the film he seems more obsessed with achieving the largesse that bad boy Sean Parker, an original Napster founder, portrays when he arrives to meet Zuckerberg at a New York restaurant.

Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz called the film a dramatization of history ... it is interesting to see my past rewritten in a way that emphasizes things that didnt matter, (like the Winklevosses, who Ive still never even met and had no part in the work we did to create the site over the past 6 years) and leaves out things that really did (like the many other people in our lives at the time, who supported us in innumerable ways).

Several noteworthy tech journalists and bloggers voiced their opinions of how the film portrays its real-life characters. Mashable founder and CEO Pete Cashmore, blogging for CNN, said: If the Facebook founder [Zuckerberg] is concerned about being represented as anything but a genius with an industrious work ethic, he can breathe a sigh of relief.

Main article: The Social Network (soundtrack)On June 1, 2010, it was announced that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross would score the film.

The Social Network appeared on 78 critics top 10 lists for 2010, of those critics 22 had the film in their number one spot.

During its opening weekend in the United States, the film debuted at No. 1, grossing $22.4 million in 2,771 theaters.

breaking Inceptions 32.0% record as the smallest second weekend drop for any number-one film of 2010, while being the third-smallest overall behind Secretariats 25.1% drop and Tooth Fairys 28.6% drop. As of August 19, 2011, the film has grossed $96,962,694 in the United States and $127,957,621 elsewhere, for a worldwide total of $224,920,315.

The Social Network appeared on over 70 critics top ten lists of the best films of 2010. Over a dozen publications ranked the film first in their lists.

Jessi Hempel, a technology writer for Fortune who says shes known Zuckerberg for a long time, wrote of the film:

While visiting the new headquarters for a meeting, Eduardo discovers the deal he signed with Seans investors has allowed them to dilute his share of the company from 34% to 0.03%, while maintaining the ownership percentage of all other parties. He confronts Mark and announces his intention to sue him. During a party celebrating Facebooks one millionth member, Sean and a number of underage Facebook interns are arrested for possession of e. Sean tries deceiving Mark into believing that he had nothing to do with the incident and that Eduardo stashed the e, but Mark does not believe him and tells him to go home.

The White Stripes song Ball and Biscuit can be heard in the opening of the film and The Beatles song Baby, Youre a Rich Man concludes the film. Neither song appears on the soundtrack.

Sorkin responded to these allegations by saying, I was writing about a very angry and deeply misogynistic group of people.

The film was nominated for seven British Academy Film Awards, including Best Film, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Jesse Eisenberg), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Andrew Garfield), and Rising Star Award (Andrew Garfield) won three for Best Editing, Adapted Screenplay, and Best Direction on February 13, 2011.

The film was released in the United States by Columbia Pictures on October 1, 2010.

The total and absolute absurdity of the world where the engines of a federal lawsuit get cranked up to adjudicate the hurt feelings (because our idea was stolen!) of entitled Harvard undergraduates is completely missed by Sorkin. We cant know enough from the film to know whether there was actually any substantial legal claim here. Sorkin has been upfront about the ct that there are brications aplenty lacing the story. But from the story as told, we certainly know enough to know that any legal system that would allow these kids to extort $65 million from the most successful business this century should be ashamed of itself. Did Zuckerberg breach his contract? Maybe, for which the damages are more like $650, not $65 million. Did he steal a trade secret? Absolutely not. Did he steal any other property? Absolutely not the code for Facebook was his, and the idea of a social network is not a patent. It wasnt justice that gave the twins $65 million; it was the fear of a random and inefficient system of law. That system is a tax on innovation and creativity. That tax is the real villain here, not the innovator it burdened.

It won three for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Film Editing at the 83rd Academy Awards on February 27, 2011.

The full length theatrical trailer debuted on July 15, 2010, which plays an edited version of the song Creep, originally by Radiohead, covered by the Belgian choir group Scala &nstead of an effort to get girls, he says he created the site because he enjoys building things.

However, according to Sorkin, Mezrich did not send him material from his book as he wrote it: Two or three times wed get together. Id go to Boston, or wed meet in New York and kind of compare notes and share information, but I didnt see the book until he was done with it. By the time I saw the book, I was probably 80 percent done with the screenplay.

Through Christy, now Eduardos girlfriend, Eduardo and Mark arrange a meeting with Napster co-founder Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake). Eduardo becomes skeptical, noting Seans problematic personal and professional history. Sean presents a vision for Facebook very similar to that of Mark, which earns Marks instant admiration. In a parting comment, Sean suggests they drop the The from Thecebook, saying it looks cleaner without the The.

During a visiting lecture by Bill Gates (Steve Sires), fellow Harvard University student Christy Lee (Brenda Song) introduces herself and her friend Alice (Malese Jow) to Eduardo and Mark and asks the boys to Facebook me. Christys use of this phrase impresses both of them. Christy invites them to a bar, where Mark runs into Erica, who is not aware of Thecebook because she is not a Harvard student. Mark tries to apologize for the Facemash incident, but Erica coldly rebuffs his attempts to make amends. As Thecebook grows in popularity, Mark decides to expand the site to Yale University, Columbia University and Stanford University, while the Winklevoss twins and Narendra watch their idea advance without them. Cameron refuses to sue them, instead accusing Mark of violating the Harvard student Code of Conduct. Through their ther Howards (John Hayden) connections, they meet with Harvard President Larry Summers (Douglas Urbanski), who is dismissive towards the twins and sees no potential value in either a disciplinary action or in Thecebook website itself.

Additional scenes were filmed on the campus of Wheelock College, which was set up to be Harvards campus.

(Coincidentally, in an interview with Diane Sawyer on ABCs World News with Diane Sawyer, Zuckerberg revealed that Eisenbergs cousin, Eric Fisher, was a Facebook product designer.) Several days later, Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield were confirmed to portray the roles of Sean Parker and Eduardo Saverin, respectively. In October 2009, Brenda Song, Rooney Mara, Armie Hammer, Shelby Young, and Josh Pence were cast.

The Social Network has received extremely positive reviews from film critics. Review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes reports that 96% of critics have given the film a positive review based on 281 reviews, with an average score of 9/10 and a critical consensus of: Impeccably scripted, beautifully directed, and filled with fine performances, The Social Network is a riveting, ambitious example of modern film at its finest. The film also holds a score of 95 based on 42 reviews on Metacritic, indicating universal acclaim and it one of the sites highest-rated movies of all time.

Although a significant portion of the latter half of the film is set in Silicon Valley, the filmmakers opted to shoot those scenes in Los Angeles and Pasadena. Miniature king process was used in a sequence showing a rowing event at the Henley Royal Regatta.

Harvard Law School professor Lawrence Lessig wrote in The New Republic that Sorkins screenplay does not acknowledge the real villain of the story:

Filming took place on the Keyser and Wyman quadrangles in the Homewood campus of Johns Hopkins University from November 24,

It received eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Fincher), and Best Actor (Eisenberg), and won three for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Film Editing. At the 68th Golden Globe Awards, the film won Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score.

Peter Travers of Rolling Stone, gave the film his first full four star rating of the year and said: The Social Network is the movie of the year. But Fincher and Sorkin triumph by taking it further. Lacing their scathing wit with an aching sadness, they define the dark irony of the past decade.

Hammer states that director David Fincher likes to push himself and likes to push technology and is one of the most technologically minded guys Ive ever seen.

some of which are not found on the soundtrack. These include songs from The Beatles, Bob Marley, Super Furry Animals, 10cc, Gluecifer, Dead Kennedys, and The White Stripes.

An epilogue reveals the following information: Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss received a settlement of $65 million, signed a non-disclosure agreement, and rowed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, placing sixth; Eduardo Saverin received a settlement of an unknown amount and his name was restored to the Facebook masthead as a Co-founder of Facebook; the website has over 1 billion members in 207 countries and is valued at 25 billion dollars; and Mark Zuckerberg is the worlds youngest billionaire.

The rowing scenes with the Winklevoss brothers were filmed at Community Rowing Inc. in Newton, Massachusetts

Divya Narendra said that he was initially surprised to see himself portrayed by the non-Indian actor Max Minghella, but also admitted that the actor did a good job in pushing the dialogue forward and creating a sense of urgency in what was a very frustrating period.

Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin said, What attracted me to [the film project] had nothing to do with Facebook. The invention itself is as modern as it gets, but the story is as old as storytelling; the themes of friendship, loyalty, new york escort jealousy, class and power. [...] I got a 14-page book proposal that Ben Mezrich had written for his publisher for a book he was going to call The Accidental Billionaires. The publisher was simultaneously shopping it around for a film sale. Thats how it wound up in my hands. I was reading it and somewhere on page three I said yes. It was the stest I said yes to anything. But Ben hadnt written the book yet, and I assumed that Sony was going to want me to wait for Ben to write the book, and I would start a year from now. They wanted me to start right away. Ben and I were kind of doing our research at the same time, sort of along parallel lines.

(Harvard has turned down most requests for on-location filming ever since the filming of Love Story (1970), which caused significant physical damage to the campus.)

In 2003, Harvard University student Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) is dumped by his girlfriend Erica Albright (Rooney Mara) at a bar. He returns to his dorm drunk and writes a blog entry about her. This inspires him to create an on-campus website called Facemash which allows users to rate the attractiveness of female students using photographs pilfered from various university systems. Mark receives six months of academic probation after traffic to the site crashes parts of Harvards network. Facemashs popularity and the ct that Mark created it in one night while drunk brings him to the attention of Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss (both portrayed by Armie Hammer) and their business partner Divya Narendra (Max Minghella). The Winklevoss twins invite Mark to their final club, where Mark accepts a job as programmer for a proposed dating website they call Harvard Connection which will be exclusive to Harvard alumni.

Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times, giving it four stars and naming it the best film of the year, wrote: David Finchers film has the rare quality of being not only as smart as its brilliant hero, but in the same way. It is cocksure, impatient, cold, exciting and instinctively perceptive.

Pence was concerned about having no ce time during the role, but after consideration thought of the role as a no-brainer.

However, he added that the film accurately depicted his real-life wardrobe, saying, Its interesting the stuff that they focused on getting right like every single shirt and fleece they had in that movie is actually a shirt or fleece that I own.

This included sending the actors to twin boot camp for 10 months to learn everything about the Winklevosses.

Sorkin has stated that, I dont want my fidelity to be to the truth; I want it to be to storytelling. What is the big deal about accuracy purely for accuracys sake, and can we not have the true be the enemy of the good?

Co-founder Eduardo Saverin said of the film, [...] the movie was clearly intended to be entertainment and not a ct-based documentary.

Scenes were filmed around the campuses of two Massachusetts prep schools, Phillips Academy and Milton Academy.

Quentin Tarantino listed The Social Network as one of his vorite 20 movies of the year, second to Toy Story 3.

Journalist Jeff Jarvis acknowledged the film was well-crafted but called it the anti-social movie, objecting to Sorkins decision to change various events and characters for dramatic effect, and dismissing it as the story that those who resist the change society is undergoing want to see.

Reznor and Ross won the award for Best Original Score at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards,

The film also won the awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score, it the film with the most wins of the night.

In an onstage discussion with The Huffington Post co-founder Arianna Huffington, during Advertising Week 2010 in New York, Facebooks Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said she had seen the film and it was very Hollywood and mainly fiction. In real life, he [Zuckerberg] was just sitting around with his friends in front of his computer, ordering pizza, she declared. Who wants to go see that for two hours?

The background song used in the club scene (in California) is performed by Dennis de Laat, and is called Sound of Violence (Main Mix).

None of the cast rowing extras for the Henley Royal Regatta racing scene appeared in the film; filming for the race was originally planned to take place in Los Angeles, but Fincher decided to film in New England during production.

Casting began in early August 2009, and open auditions were held in various states. Jesse Eisenberg was first announced to be attached to the project in September 2009.

The story is intercut with scenes from depositions taken in lawsuits against Mark and Facebookone filed by the Winklevoss twins, the other by Eduardo. The Winklevoss twins claim that Zuckerberg stole their idea, while Saverin claims his shares of Facebook were unirly diluted when the company was incorporated. At the end, Marylin Delpy (Rashida Jones), a junior lawyer for the defense, informs Mark they will be settling with Eduardo, since the sordid details of Facebooks founding and Marks callous attitude will make him highly unsympathetic to a jury. After everyone leaves, Mark sends a friend request to Erica Albright on Facebook, and refreshes the page every few seconds waiting for a response.

Some reviewers pointed out that the film plays loosely with the cts behind Facebooks founding. Joe Morgenstern in The Wall Street Journal praised the film as exhilarating but noted: The biographical part takes liberties with its subject. Aaron Sorkin based his screenplay on a contentious book, Ben Mezrichs The Accidental Billionaires, so everything thats seen isnt necessarily to be believed.

Eduardo has been dismayed to learn that his girlfriend Christy is psychotic, as he terms it. Upon his return to New York, Christy angrily confronts Eduardo about his Facebook profile, which lists him as single. She refuses to believe Eduardo when he reluctantly explains that he does not know how to change his profile. She accuses him of cheating on her and sets fire to a scarf he gave to her as a gift. While Eduardo extinguishes the fire she caused, Mark reveals on the phone that although he was upset that Eduardo almost jeopardized Facebook by freezing the bank account, they have secured $500,000 from (Wallace Langham). Eduardo breaks up with Christy and returns to California.

The indoor rowing scene was filmed at Boston Universitys indoor rowing tanks. All of BUs blue oars in the scene were repainted to Harvards crimson color for filming. Dan Boyne was the official rowing consultant for the film both in the US and the UK.

The Social Network received nominations for eight Academy Awards, Social Networking, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Sound, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Mark approaches his friend Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield) and tells him of his idea for what he calls Thecebook, an online social networking website exclusive to Harvard University students. He explains that this would mimic the popularity of FaceMash but since signing up would be consensual it would avoid the ethical problems of the earlier site. Eduardo agrees to help Mark, providing $1,000 to help start the site. They distribute the link to Eduardos connections at the Phoenix S-K final club, and it becomes popular throughout the student body. When they learn of Thecebook, the Winklevoss twins and Narendra believe Zuckerberg has stolen their idea while stalling on their website. Tyler and Divya want to sue Mark for intellectual property theft, but Cameron convinces them to settle the matter as Gentlemen of Harvard.

While competing in the Henley Royal Regatta for Harvard, the Winklevoss twins discover Facebook has expanded to Oxford, Cambridge and LSE, and footage of their lost rowing race final against the Hollandia Roeiclub is posted on it. Cameron relents The Social Network Social Networkingand they decide to sue. When Eduardo visits from New York, he is angered to find Sean living in their house and business decisions for Facebook. Eduardo argues with Mark, with Mark a demeaning remark regarding Eduardos iled attempts to find advertisers. Eduardo freezes the companys bank account out of anger and returns to New York.

Armie Hammer, who portrayed the Winklevoss twins, acted alongside body double Josh Pence while his scenes were filmed. His ce was later digitally grafted onto Pences ce during post-production, while other scenes used split-screen photography. Pence himself appears in a cameo role.

Lead actors Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield formed a close friendship during filming, which Eisenberg has stated made the filming of more emotional scenes difficult because he was upset by Garfields heartbreaking performance yet had to remain unresponsive and in character.

The Social Network was released on DVD and Blu-ray January 11, 2011. In its first week of release, DVD sales totaled $13,470,305 and it was the number one sold DVD of the week.

A lot of exciting things happened in 2004, but mostly we just worked a lot and stressed out about things; the version in the trailer seems a lot more exciting, so Im just going to choose to remember that we drank ourselves silly and had a lot of with coeds.... The plot of the book/script unabashedly attacked [Zuckerberg], but I actually felt like a lot of his positive qualities come out truthfully in the trailer (soundtrack aside). At the end of the day, they cannot help but portray him as the driven, forward-thinking genius that he is.

At Seans suggestion, Mark moves the company to Palo Alto while Eduardo remains in New York seeking advertising support. Sean advises Mark to keep hold of his ownership of Facebook to ensure that Mark does not lose control of a potentially lucrative business venture. After Sean promises to expand Facebook to two continents, Mark invites Sean to live at the house he is using as the company headquarters.

Andrew Clark of The Guardian wrote that theres something insidious about this genre of [docudrama] scriptwriting, wondering if a 26-year-old businessman really deserves to have his name dragged through the mud in a murky mixture of ct and imagination for the general entertainment of the movie-viewing public? Clark added, Im not sure whether Mark Zuckerberg is a punk, a genius or both. But I wont be seeing The Social Network to find out.

The film won Best Picture from the National Society of Film Critics, the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and the National Board of Review, it only the third film in history (after Schindlers List and L. A. Confidential) to sweep the Big Four critics.

Theres a lot of available research, and I also did a lot of first person research with a number of the people that were involved in the story. I cant go too deeply into that because most of the people did it on the condition of anonymity, but what I found was that two lawsuits were brought against Facebook at the roughly same time, that the defendant, plaintiffs, witnesses all came into a deposition room and swore under oath, and three different versions of the story were told. Instead of choosing one and deciding thats the truest one or choosing one and deciding thats the juiciest one, I decided to dramatize the idea that there were three different versions of the story being told. Thats how I came up with the structure of the deposition room.

The film received widespread acclaim, with critics praising it for its editing, acting, score, direction and screenplay. However, some people, including Zuckerberg himself, criticized the film for its many inaccuracies. The Social Network appeared on 78 critics Top 10 list for 2010; of those critics, 22 had the film in their number-one spot. Rolling Stones Peter Travers said The Social Network is the movie of the year. But Fincher and Sorkin triumph by taking it further. Lacing their scathing wit with an aching sadness, they define the dark irony of the past decade.

The truth is that content management systems, files sharing systems, social business software, and learning management systems in their current states just dont meet the needs of your employees. As such, your teams are going to continue using backchannels and hacks until you give them the tools that match their work style and preferences. Whats lacking?

Popular CMS: Drupal, SharePoint, Documentum, FileNet, and even WordPress.

The answer is . Make information more accessible to everyone on your team with Bloomfire. For as little as $99, you can reclaim an entire weeks worth of work every month.

But, it becomes difficult to manage these networks once the user base grows beyond a very small number. Put simply - most of these plays are designed to be one-to-many systems, instead of a many-to-many channel.

The usual suspects: Dropbox, iCloud, Rackspaces JungleDisk, Citrixs Sharefile, and EMCs Syncplicity.

Bloomfire takes from content management systems, file sharing systems, social business software, and learning management systems the features that users actually use and like, creating a knowledge sharing tool for the modern workforce.

Traditional LMS are complex, old-shioned software suites that want to train massive amounts of employees with minimal human efforts and contact. They are focused on one-way, top-dowAdvantages Social Networkingn communication. And for a while, they worked quite, because the mere availability of information was a big deal.

Class examples: Oracles iLearning, SAPs Cornerstone OnDemand, Plateau Systems, Taleo, and Saba.

One of the biggest inefficiencies that businesses ce today is the inability to quickly and effectively scale need-to-know information across the business. Companies that have successfully implemented a knowledge sharing culture:

The obvious players: Yammer, Jive, Kickapps and Lithium.

However, they arent very social, new york asian escort model and they dont display or let you consume content like you can with social media services like YouTube, or Facebook. And theyre not useful for collaboration, or content creation - those activities take place out of context, by definition. File sharing systems are too constrained -- they just dont do enough.

Social networks, forums, stream players and Q&A sites make it incredibly easy to create and consume content among networks.

While Bloomfire is loaded with modern content management, file sharing, and social features, these are merely a means to an end. The end goal of Bloomfire is to get your people sharing knowledge with one another. Many studies have been done that speak to the productivity benefits that are realized when employees are free to ask questions, share information, and PULL information from team experts when they need it. To learn more about our philosophy, check out the Bloomfire Manifesto.

LMS came from academia, and they still have traction in that vertical. They have lost ground in business contexts because we no longer learn on the job the way we learned in school.

According to the IDC Report, The Hidden Cost of Information Work, the average employee spends 9 hours per week searching for information that they need to do their job. For a very small team of just five people this has huge implications - more than an entire weeks worth of work spent looking for information in a single month!

These systems (now mostly cloud-based) work with little or no configuration, are super organized, and can handle any kind of content. Who doesnt love Dropbox?

People come to us looking for all kinds of thingsa wiki, an intranet, a corporate community, a blog site, Social Networking, a knowledge base, a sales enablement tool the list goes on and on. Whatever you want to call it, Bloomfire is a way for teams to share knowledge using modern social business, content management, file sharing and learning management features.

Most content management systems require serious time, money and customization. You drown in features, because they try and be everything to everyone. Not surprisingly, most CMS solutions are IT-owned, instead of chosen and run by the business side of the house. CMS deservedly has a reputation for being bloated. Plus, they are not easy to use and require a decent amount of training for the average user.

What happens after we die? For millennia its bMay You Tweet In Peace Social Media Beyond The Graveeen both a question and a debate among mortal humans, but in the 21st century, theres a new twist: What happens to our social media life once weve left this earth (and does the afterlife have Wi-Fi)?

The project is still undergoing testing in the U.K. and Bedwood wasnt sure when it would be released to the public.

The project started in 2011 and resuced after a popular British show, Black Mirror, debuted the idea of tweeting from the grave. Now, _LivesOns tag line is When your heart stops beating, youll keep tweeting.

Lizzy Duffy is an intern on NPRs Social Media Desk.

Facebook memorializes accounts of the deceased, while Twitter deactivates accounts upon receiving a death certificate from the immediate mily or a person handling the estate. The U.S. government has updated its guidelines for writing a will with instructions about choosing someone you can trust to do what you wish with your social media accounts when youre gone.

That got Norris thinking. Monkhouse is immortal through his me and now through an ad that was released after he died. Norris felt that there should be such a service for people who have unfinished business when they die.

_LivesOn takes it a step further. Its advertising as a tool to tweet for you in your afterlife.

All Tech Considered is a companion to the weekly on-air feature of the same name. Listen on Mondays to All Things Considered for the radio stories, check back here for Web content. Questions? Contact us via our handy form.

Now people can extend their social legacy, Norris said. This shouldnt be exclusive to celebrities that are of value.

So it seems while we were preoccupied with the zombie apocalypse and The Walking Dead, its the tweeting dead that may actually become a part of our reality.

The project a collaboration between the Lean Mean Fighting Machine ad agency and Queen Mary, University of LonSocial Mediadon originally intended the service as something for the living: A Twitter user could create a second identity (twittername_liveson) as a private account that would track the users tweets online. As the second account came to know your habits, it would predict what you would vorite or retweet and do it for you. The idea is at the end of the day, you can log onto your _LivesOn and see the tweets that are most important to you.

We benefited really well going off the Black Mirror, but the negative side was that people think that were just about death, said Dave Bedwood, creative partner for Lean Mean Fighting Machine. Were focused on the living, new york asian escorts but (in theory) you might be able to create something for the dead.

if i die is another example of socked-away messages, but the companys Facebook app has a different way of appealing to users. Both if i die and DeadSoci.al advertise their companies as a way to stay connected in the afterlife, but if i die extends the opportunity for world me: When you sign up, you can make a message for the world. The first person to die among those who signed up will have their message released on Mashable as well as on various international TV networks and websites ensuring you extensive, international exposure, the voiceover explains in the if i die ad.

But does your social media life have to die with you? Apparently not: A few companies are building services to maintain your online presence once youre six feet under.

One of its founders, James Norris, got the idea for DeadSoci.al while watching a television ad: It features the late comedian Bob Monkhouse looking over his grave and talking about what a pity it is that hes now gone because of prostate cancer.

DeadSoci.al, Social Media, which went live on Friday, is a service that socks away Facebook and Twitter messages on set future dates, for things such as birthdays, special occasions or to continue jokes beyond the grave.

The Church sees that and embraces it as a means to dialogue and to the free and easy exchange of ideas, Mary Nolan, a spokeswoman for Vatican news outlet LOsservatore Romano, told FoxNews.com.

If you had to guess who has the biggest footprint on Facebook would you guess one of the Justins -- Timberlake or Bieber? Perhaps Kim Kardashian or President Barack Obama?

Chabad Rabbi Uriel Vigler of the Chabad Israel Center in New Yorks Upper East Side said social media has also been invaluable for education. He uploads weekly two-minute Torah video lessons, but people of other religions can also find apps for Buddhist meditation, Ignation contemplation and even a compass to point them in the direction of Mecca at times of prayer.

Celebrities may have more followers, but with 1.3 billion impressions every 30 days and over 16.5 million ns, Jesus Daily claims to be the most engaged Facebook page in the world. The sites success is indicative of the way religion has moved beyond the churches and synagogues onto the web, where ith can touch us not just on the weekend but every day.

Another religious leader with a large following on Twitter is the Dalai Lama who on his DalaiLama verified account has more than 6 million followers. The Dalai Lama mainly tweets instructive inspirations, such as his most recent message on March 7:

Similarly, the leaders of Americas stest and largest growing church according to Church Growth Today, Lakewood Church, Joel and Victoria Osteen use several dozen social media platforms combined (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube) as tools for ministry and communication.

Guess again.

Lakewood Church spokeswoman Andrea Davis explains to FoxNews.com that such forums offer the opportunity to connect with people in real-time: Waiting until tomorrow to interact with people about a service or an event that is happening today is too late.

Nolan said the ct people can find a Torah lecture or a papal encyclical online shows how social media can help nourish ith.

In a single month Joel Osteen, who now has about 1.4 million Twitter followers and whom Nielsen Media Research says is the most watched inspirational figure in America, will tweet approximately 224 times resulting in potentially over 413 million impressions. As Christians, social media gives us the opportunity to cast a wider net, to let our lights shine more than ever before, Davis said.

In Benedicts message for the 2013 world day of social communications, the pope recognizes that social media is penetrating peoples lives and providing new spaces for evangelization.

If youre hungry, and I believe everyone is hungry for God, and you taste a really good appetizer, then youre going to want to taste the next course because [social media] doesnt replace the Bible, sacraments, or church, new york asian escort Morris told FoxNews.com.

The idea is to be present when [people wonder about God] and help them from there, she said.

Pontifex: May you always experience the joy that comes from putting Christ at the centre of your lives.

Hes likely to say yes. The number of religious leaders using social media implies that Jesus, Yahweh and even Buddha have indeed inspired followers to find ith online.

Even Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI took to Twitter at age 85, quickly building up more than 1.6 million followers before signing off the social network on Feb. 28 following his almost unprecedented resignation, sending a final thankful tweet:

There are ways of being tech savvy, and some [religious leaders] are developing sustained, interpersonal relationships and a difference in peoples lives through the context of digital ministry, Elizabeth Drescher, author ofClick 2 Save: The Digital Ministry Bibleand religion and pastoral ministries professor at Santa Clara University, told FoxNews.com.

As the cardinals gather in the Vatican to elect the next Bishop of Rome on March 12, Social Media, the te of that Twitter account is unclear; the tweets on the Pontifex account have been deleted and the name that appears alongside the handle reads Sede Vacante, Latin for empty chair. The Vatican has said it will leave the account untouched until Benedicts successor is picked and decides if he, too, wants to use Twitter.

Dont worry about what others say about you. Keep your mind set on what God says about you.

These messages are what Fr. Jonathan Morris, a Catholic priest and Fox News contributor, likens to a delicious appetizer.

Education is the way to achieve r-reaching results, it is the proper way to promote compassion and tolerance in society.

Just as St. Paul was willing to travel in order to spread the message of the gospel, Morris -- who uses Twitter and Facebook, and hosts a SirusXM Catholic radio channel -- sees social media not just as an opportunity, but an obligation to reach out to people who may not be coming into his pews on Sundays, as well as a means to keep in touch with parishioners.

And expect religion to get even tech savvier, Drescher said: Our expectation that everything be instantaneous, accessible and on-demand means these figures and organizations need to become more mobile.
